Guatelan landslide!

Evacuations near Guatemalan Volcano

Published by CNN, this particular article has no noted author. This evacuation is due to a landslide the that was near a volcano (currently inactive).Over 800 families, in Guatemala have been evacutated due to the event. As an affect of this landslide, the officials of Guatemala have been alerted to the possibility of an even more destructive force. If the volcano errupts then another, even greater, landslide will occur. Which will make it all the more destructive of a situation.

A few things I learned from this event, is (1) the destructive power of the forces of nature,(2) how some events are a pre-cursur to others, and (3)how much governments go through to help protect/prevent natural distasters.

An interesting thing that I picked up was the ironic state of the situation. Beit that this was a volcano, a landslide was probably the last thing on the minds of the people. An eruption would probably be more "expected". I also thought about the wide scale of people whom it affected. 800 families is a large number of people to be affected by a landslide.

One question I still have is What are the chances that something similar would happen in America?
